MYLÈNE FREEMAN CONCERNED ABOUT POSSIBLE CLOSURE OF CANADA ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OFFICE IN LAVAL
Services offered in Argenteuil would be greatly affected by this closure, says New Democrat MP
LACHUTE — New Democrat MP Mylène Freeman (Argenteuil-Papineau-Mirabel) is concerned about the impact of the possible closure of the Canada Economic Development office in Laval on services offered in Argenteuil.
The planned closure of the Laval office would mean the administrative region of the Laurentians would be divided into two territories to be serviced by the Montreal and Outaouais offices, reducing services offered in Argenteuil.
“This closure represents a major obstacle to our region’s economic,” said Freeman. “This is unfortunately just another example of the Conservatives cutting with no regard for the consequences.”
Beyond the simple reduction of services, this closure could reduce the amount of travel to the region by Canada Economic Development agents.
“Only the out-of-touch Conservatives would think these cuts will help the region better support economic development,” said Freeman. “I hope the minister responsible, Denis Lebel, listens to reason so Argenteuil can continue to have access to this important service.”
